The Obama administration declared the 9/11 plotters will not be tried in civilian courts in New York, and they are considering alternative venues. Mayor Bloomberg of New York told the administration security alone would cost $200 million. Bloomberg had been an early proponent of holding the trials in New York, but recently changed his mind based on the security costs and the potential disruption to the city of New York.
The administration is currently considering other venues including military bases and prison complexes. The change is stark turnabout from President’s Obama’s declaration that the plotters should be tried in "civilian courts."
