Criminal Case Against US Troops in Iraq Proceeds

A military judge in California denied Sergeant Frank Wuterich motion to dismiss, meaning one of the biggest criminal cases against US troops will continue. Jones is charged with voluntary manslaughter, among other charges, resulting from a 2005 attack in Iraq.

The incident began when a marine was killed by a roadside bomb. Wuterich and another marine are accused of shooting give men at the scene, and then clearing nearby houses with grenades and gunfire. Wuterich has expressed regret for the incident, but still maintains he was operating under military combat rules. The case will now continue towards trial.
