Obama Warns of Conservative Judicial Activism

President Obama, on the verge of nominating a successor to Justice Stevens, criticized the Supreme Court of engaging in conservative judicial activism. Obama criticized the Court earlier this year, when it declared a campaign finance law was unconstitutional. That decision said that corporations have freedom of speech rights and now allows corporations to spend freely on elections.

Specifically, Obama warned that the Court, is currently overstepping its boundaries by overruling legislation that was lawfully passed. Obama admitted the Court was accused of doing the same thing, with a more liberal tint, back in the 60′s and 70′s. Obama said that legislatures should get some deference as long as core constitutional values are observed.
