U.S. gun ban weakened by court opinion

A new opinion by the Supreme Court of the United States holds that the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment restrains any significant government limit on "the right to keep and bear arms."

The opinion, released Monday, advances a recent trend by the conservative-led bench to embrace gun rights.

By a narrow 5-4 vote, the justices signalled, however, that less severe restrictions could survive legal challenges
