A US District Court judge has blocked Nebraska’s new abortion law from going into effect, saying that the law would create "substantial, likely insurmountable" obstacles to women seeking abortions. The law requires doctors to do extensive screening of women prior to an abortion, including mental screening.
Planned Parenthood challenged the law, saying that the law was unconstitutional because it was impossible to meet the requirements of the law. In her ruling, the judge also noted that the current law would pave the way for crippling lawsuits against doctors because the intensive screening process.
