Judge Blocks Parts of Arizona Immigration Law

An Arizona Federal Judge has issued an injunction, blocking many provisions of the new immigration law. In her opinion, the judge expressed concerns about illegal aliens being swept up by local police, and also expressed concerns the law treads on federal authority to handle immigration.

The Governor of Arizona promised an immediate appeal to the 9th Circuit, which makes it likely that decision will be appealed to the Supreme Court. Civil rights groups were happy with the decision, and the judge’s injunction is also considered a win for the Obama administration, who had also sued the state, alleging the law was unconstitutional.
