Two oil companies are among the biggest proponents of a California ballot-measure to suspend the state’s global warming law. The companies, Valero Energy Corporation and Tesoro Corporation, have contributed over $4.5 million dollars to the Proposition 23 campaign. The goal of the ballot measure is to suspend the 2006 law intended to reduce greenhouse emissions.
The companies ranked fourth and eighth, respectively, in terms of the largest emitters of chemicals in the state of California. Tesero has also been fined nearly $2 million dollars for violating air quality regulations in the Bay Area.
