Will Gay Marriages Resume in California Next Week?

United States District Court Judge Vaughn R. Walker has put a temporary stay on his ruling that overturned Proposition 8. Judge Walker has given Proposition 8′s supporters until August 18 to appeal his decision. Last week, the Judge struck down Proposition 8, which forbid gay marriages, as unconstitutional.

Judge Walker, however, also said that he did not think Proposition 8′s supporters have the necessary legal standing to appeal his decision because they are not directly harmed by his decision. California’s Attorney General and Governor Schwarzenegger also pressed Judge Walker to have his ruling take effect immediately, so that gay marriages could resume in the state.
