Vote on gun registry to be close

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says all his caucus will be present for Wednesday night’s vote to scrap a Conservative backbencher’s bill to repeal the 15-year-old long-gun registry.

The highly anticipated vote on a Liberal motion to defeat Tory MP Candice Hoeppner’s private member’s bill is slated for 5:45 p.m. ET, after weeks of high-pressure negotiations, cajoling and arm-twisting.

"Yes, a straight answer to a straight question," Ignatieff told reporters in the House of Commons foyer ahead of his party’s first caucus meeting for the fall parliamentary session when asked if all the Liberals will show up to vote.
