As November elections grow closer, it is apparent that immigration reform is a hot topic, even in non-border states like Nebraska. Current Governor Dave Heineman is campaigning for a second term on the grounds that he wants to introduce an immigration reform bill similar to the Arizona law that was passed earlier this year.
Heineman has stated he believes the federal governement has failed to solve the issue. Presumptively, Heineman seems to feel that states have to pick up the slack and deal with the issue. Heineman has also said he thinks that every state will have an Arizona-type law in the near future. Parts of the Arizona law were recently blocked by a federal judge.
