Stepfather charged after 10 year old kills teen

A B.C. man is facing two charges after his 10-year-old stepson accidentally shot and killed another boy while showing off his stepfather’s shotgun.

George Phillips, 51, of Jaffray, B.C., has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and careless storage of a firearm, according to RCMP. Phillips will make his first court appearance in Cranbrook Nov. 9.

No charges will be laid against the 10-year-old boy. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, children under the age of 12 are not charged with criminal acts.
